Ceramics 2 Final blog post

The artworks presented demonstrate my own growth as an artists and a student since they showed an increase in creativity with original art and the risk taking that I took this whole year. The first project that shows creating original art is my urn since it is both an urn and a statue. Further more it is a reminder of my dog Charlie who had passed away awhile ago. The multi-layer container is an original art piece because since it is a Disney theme container. As well as a once it is all painted it wont be all one color or theme of colors it will be multi themed. The bust I made is also an original art piece since of its realistic look to it with the realism of the face. Following that the project looks like it is moving in real time since of its flowing cape. Next the bowls that were made on the wheel have attributes of original art since the bowls were made by my hands and were molded to look how I wanted them to look. My plate project is considered an original art piece since the color scheme that was placed on it was of my own choosing. Also the placement of the stencils onto the plate made the project original because it was mostly even to proportion and I chose where the stencils were to be placed. 11 The project that I would change is the plate since it has many errors to it such as smudges and also mistakes in removing the stencils out of the clay in which I would like to fix/ change. The things that I would update is the placement of the stencils to make it more even and to make the layers of glaze more blended than layered one on top of the other.

My two strongest Artistic Behaviors that I excel out of all of them are Artists Observe and Artists create original art. First of all for Artists Observe I always meaning/ emotion into them. The First example is the look of my urn on how it looks like my dog Charlie. Also the form of my Washington bust’s cape looks like it is flowing (this was done purposely). Following that the visual of the glaze on my multi-bowl project represents the difference in friendship and family. To start off with Artists create original art the way I always make a personal image when I am given a theme. To begin with the first example is the Darth Vader bank since it has an original look with its helmet form. Furthermore the piece of die that I made is original because it chows the chance and difference in choices. Lastly my vase project is original since the coloring of the glaze is added on how I wanted it.

The two types of artistic behaviors that I used were Artists Reflect and Artists solve problems. To start off with artists reflect I reflected on how I would make/prepare the hat that George was going to wear. Also I thought back to the cloak and how I would make it look like it was blowing in the wind. Furthermore I backtracked to the facial features of George and decided weather or not that they were in the correct place. Lastly for artists reflect I looked back to the whole physique of the artwork to make it look like George Washington. To start off with artists solve problems I solved the problem with the hat and preventing it from drooping/falling by proportionally placing pieces on it until i get the full hat. Secondly I tested wind blown clothing looks to make sure I go the cloak to looked wind blown. Continuing with that I worked on creating detail to the cape to make it pop out more. Finally I worked on the head direction different from the body direction so it would match the picture and have that realistic look.

The two artistic behaviors that I used are artists take risks and artists use tools/materials correctly. First of all for artists take risks I worked on creating the cape and its setup. Secondly I creating the hat and making it defy gravity. I also took risks on creating the facial features and where to have them placed. As well as making the whole thing look like an outfit instead of adding layers of clay to get the same outcome. To begin with artists use tools/materials correctly I used the rubber rib to make the cape look like it is flowing in the wind. Further more I used the serrated edge scrapper to attach the hat to the head. Following that I the fettling knife to make the different proportions on the clothing parts. Lastly I used the clay not just for continuing my project I also used it to keep parts of the project together and I used it for repairing it as well.

The two types of Artistic Behaviors that I used to create my George Washington bust were Artists create original art and Artists communicate. First of all for Artists communicate I talked with my classmates on how I should work on the progress of making the overall set up of my project. Secondly I consulted with my teacher on how I should create the facial features. Further more I communicated with my classmates about how to get the fabric on the artwork to match with how the fabric looks on the picture. Lastly I discussed with my classmate (Jacob) about his artwork like helping him with making the head look more realistic. To begin with Artists create original art I created my very own mock copy three dimensional artwork of George Washington when he was crossing the Delaware. Also I created outlines of the fabric on the base and as additional parts to the artwork. Following that I made small details to different pieces of the project such as to create folds or make it look like it was flowing in the wind. Finally I created distinct facial features to make it distinctly look like George Washington.

The two artistic behaviors that I used were Artists communicate and Artists plan. To start off with artists communicate I talked with other classmates about how I should change the form of the bowl so I would have different sizes. Also when I talked to my classmates I also asked how could I change the height of the bowls so that would be another difference. Furthermore I consulted with my other classmates and my teacher about  the differences about how much clay  should use for differences in width for my bowls. Lastly for artists communicate I communicated with my classmates about how I could work better on centering my bowls for a better evenness. To begin with artists plan I decided on how I would create the different heights and widths for my six bowls. Following that I planned on how I would keep my bowl centered to prevent one side to be uneven. To continue with artists plan I decided on the process to create bowls with a larger piece of clay to create bigger bowls. To finish up with artists plan, I am thinking of creating artwork with smaller pieces of clay to create handheld creations.

The two types of artistic behavior that I used for are using materials and tools also taking risks for creating my artwork. First of all for using materials and tools I used the pottery wheel for the platform to creating my artwork also it was used to keep the walls even. Furthermore I used the knife tool to cut off any extra clay off my project. Following that I used the wire tool to cut the project off the pottery wheel. As well as I used the bucket of water and the sponge to keep the clay soft when I molded it. For taking risks on creating my artwork I challenged my self for making a cylinder with even wall thickness for which I have completed at this time. Also I challenged myself for making three of the six cylinders taller than they are wide. Continuing with that I wish to have the other three cylinders wider than they will be tall. lastly I wish to challenge myself to not just create an even wall thickness for all of my cylinders but also make the lip of the project pieces even height.

The two of artistic behaviors that I have decided to use are communication with my fellow students and observing detail of my artwork. The details I decided to include in my artwork were facial features and why this was important to me as well as to the topic of the project ( artists tell stories). First of all for my observation of detail within my artwork I found that the heart stopper that I have made to be the lid for my urn was well shaped. Also it fit perfectly into the slot without needing me to remake it. Furthermore the head and more importantly the face of the dog was very well made with its whole facial outline. As well as the nose and eyes had a large number of detail put into it to look very realistic. For using communication with my fellow class mates firstly I asked weather or not that the small lid/stopper should be placed on the top or on the side of my project. Continuing with that I asked for their opinion on where to place the ears and how should they look. Lastly I asked my fellow students if when I place the tail on the end of the dachshund should it look like it is wagging it’s tail or should I have it look like it is resting behind it ( just sitting there).

The two artistic behaviors that I used were art making skills and creating original art. First of all for creating original art I thought of making a dachshund that would remind me of my dog Charlie who passed away. Also I thought of turning the model of Charlie into a urn so the would be a place to put his ashes. Furthermore I thought that it would help my mom feel better over Charlie passing away. Following that for my secondary artistic behavior it was art making skills. My first skill I used and enclosed form made by pinch bowls to create the body of my artwork. Continuing with that I used coiling to connect my pieces together (enclosed form, the shoulders of the legs, etc.). As well as I used a pinch bowl form for the head of the artwork. Lastly I used the fettling knife and a mold to create the heart (see previous blog post to see image of heart) to show the separation of me from Charlie and that I still care about him.
